Folsom - Atlantic County Economic Alliance

Folsom

Folsom was incorporated in 1906. It is named for Frances Folsom, the wife of Grover Cleveland. The town’s website describes Folsom as “a community steeped in history and renowned for its sense of family and community.“

Folsom is located on the western edge of Atlantic County, bordering Hammonton and Hamilton Townships, Buena Vista Township in Atlantic County, Monroe Township in Gloucester County, and Winslow Township in Camden County. Folsom is located halfway between Philadelphia and Atlantic City, approximately 30 miles from either city, via either the Atlantic City Expressway or the Black Horse Pike. The Jersey Shore beaches are a 30-minute drive from the town, while the Philadelphia Airport is a 45-minute drive.

Known for its scenic beauty, Folsom consists of large tracts of forests and wetlands. The Hospitality Branch and the Great Egg Harbor River flow through the Folsom Borough on their way to the Atlantic Ocean. The Great Egg Harbor River is a National Wild and Scenic River. The reserves and protected areas in Folsom provide unique recreational opportunities for canoeing, kayaking, hiking, and fishing.

Folsom is located within the Pinelands National Reserve, a protected natural area of unique ecology covering more than one million acres and is the nation’s first National Reserve. Other protected areas include the Great Egg Harbor River Wildlife Management Area, Penny Pot Park, and the Natural Lands Trust’s Waldhausen Woods and Collings Pine areas.

New Jersey Monthly magazine ranked Folsom as the 19th best place to live in their 2008 rankings of the “Best Places To Live” in New Jersey.
