Incorporated in 1886, Somers Point was settled by Europeans in the late 1600’s and boasts a historic maritime heritage that transcends five centuries. Somers Point Facts 

• Located in the southeast corner of Atlantic County on the Great Egg Harbor Bay with the tag line “The Shore Starts Here”.  

• Speak like a local! Somers Point is pronounced “Summers Point”. The town name has been pronounced that way as long as anyone can remember. 

• The name Somers Point was adopted in 1750. A seafaring town where sloops, schooners and barges were constructed in many ship yards along the Greate Egg Harbor Bay, Greate Egg Harbor River and Patchcong Creek. 

• Today Somers Point celebrates the seafaring heritage with the Somers Mansion, Marina’s, Restaurants and Entertainment Venues along Bay Avenue and Shore Road. 
• Somers Point is home to Shore Memorial Hospital, many diagnostic facilities and physician offices servicing our residents and surrounding towns. 

• Residents and tourist alike can take advantage of shopping in our two centers along with many individual shops.  

• Our residents live in well-established neighborhoods, of single resident and multi-unit facilities and brags about the golfing at Greate Bay Country Club and many other courses near-by. Our Volunteer Fire Department and Local Police Force is long established and aims to serve all.
